HVUT is a Federal Excise Tax for vehicles with a gross taxable weight of 55,000 pounds or more. You are required to provide the DMV with proof of payment of HVUT each year. This is usually a Stamped Schedule 1.

Yes! The IRS will accept credit and debit card payments. You may also pay your 2022-2023 Form 2290 taxes using any of the following methods:

  • Electronic Funds Withdrawal (EFW),
  • Electronic Federal Tax Payment System (EFTPS),
  • credit and debit card
  • Mail a check or money order. Regardless of the payment option you choose, you will still receive your stamped Schedule 1.

You will need your business information, EIN, VIN, gross taxable weight of your vehicle, and method of payment.

You can pay your IRS fees by Credit Card, Debit Card, Direct Debit or Electronic Funds Withdrawal (EFW), Electronic Federal Tax Payment System (EFTPS) through the IRS, or by Check or Money Order.

You will receive a Stamped Schedule 1 with a digital watermark from the IRS which is the proof of payment.

You can receive your Stamped Schedule 1 by email, fax or postal mail. You can also download it from within the application.

When you e-file HVUT Form 2290, the IRS will apply a digital watermark to your Stamped Schedule 1. This electronic Stamped Schedule 1 is your official proof of payment. If a state or local DMV does not accept this digital Stamped Schedule 1, contact the IRS Excise Hotline at 1-866-699-4096 and provide a brief description of the issue and the contact information of your local DMV. The IRS will be able to assist you and ensure that your DMV accepts your electronic Stamped Schedule 1.

Yes, if your vehicle is exempt from the tax (i.e. suspended vehicle), you still need to e-file your Form 2290. However, you don't need to make a payment.
